Thanks to assimilating Dad’s music collection on Saturday via the aforementioned 300GB external hard drive — Our MP3 collection is now a staggering 86.07 GB or, in iTunes parlance, 44.3 days of continuous music represented by 15,150 songs (it’d be more songs, but my preferred format is 320kbps MP3.)

I’m not sure when I’d ever have a need for even 2 days of continuous music, although once Sprout’s born I might reassess that statement!

{Note to Dad: these totals are accurate; that’s with the over 6 GB of duplicated songs in our two collections removed!}

Ooh, we’re very close!

84 GB here, with 17,532 songs for 51.8 days of music.

Of course, the sad thing is, at *least* 90% of that is music that I’ve never played more than a single time, or probably ever will… prob about 100-200 songs that I put in playlists and on repeat constitute almost all I ever listen to.

Not that we’d dream of doing without any of the rest, would we?

Heaven’s no, throwing out an MP3 would be like throwing out one of our cats!

My “Favorites” Smart Playlist currently consists of 361 songs — everything from ABBA to Willie (Nelson) & Waylon (Jennings) — which I’ve rated 4 stars or better. Of course, I only rate songs I listen to, so there are probably many more favorites I just haven’t gotten around to rating!

How many Christmas songs do you have?

I’m four songs shy of 400 songs in my “Holiday – Christmas” genre… have to do something about that to even it up.

You are a little ahead of me in integrating the two collections.

I am not used to dealing in such large storage requirements and the drive maxed out as I moved the new songs to Itunes.

After moving your collection to another drive, It took some searching but I did find where the copying left off and get the rest moved over.

This is awesome.

And to think that I still have more tape and vinyl to digitize.

Thank you for sharing.

Ah, under the Holiday category I have a mere 43 songs (of which about half – the new Aimee Mann and Sarah McLachlan holiday albums, and by the way, does it make anyone else feel as old as it does me that artists like *those* are putting out holiday albums? – are brand new additions).

The rest is just random oddments from Charlie Brown and the Chipmunks to the Cocteau Twins… I prob. have a few more songs that I haven’t bothered to tag as such yet, but I have far more Billie Holiday than seasonal holiday stuff.

Gotcha.

I chalk it up to being a “December baby” born around Christmas time… I love Christmas music, although only when it is under my control (as opposed to being force-fed to me in every retail establishment on Earth.)

If you don’t have it in your collection, download (er… buy?) “Christmas in the Trenches” by John McDermott. Not all Christmas music is saccharine sweet.
